Course name: Medicinal compounding and drug legislation

 

COURSE CONTENT

The course provides the rational basis for medicinal compounding and drug manufacturing by procedures suitable both for the public hospital pharmacies and for the industry.

The students are engaged in individual practical activities concerning the preparation of different dosage forms, taking into particular account the GMP, stability and storage requirements.

The students can also learn the basis of drug legislation with particular regards to pharmacy activities and medicinal manufacturing.

 

LEARNING OUTCOME

Knowledge of physical-chemical properties of the liquid disperse systems: solutions, colloids, coarse dispersions and emulsions. Medicinal extracts.

Formulation and preparation methods and quality controls of the following dosage forms:

  • Oral liquids: syrups, elixirs, macromolecular dispersions, emulsions, suspensions.
  • Topical: ointments, creams, hydrogels.
  • Rectal and vaginal.

Water for pharmaceutical uses.

Drug stability, stabilization and storage conditions.

Knowledge of European and Italian pharmaceutical legislation with particular regards to pharmacy activities and regulatory affairs.
