COURSE CONTENT
general aspects of pharmaceutical chemistry;
strategies for the discovery of biological drug-targets and development of lead compounds;
chemical and structural properties relevant to drug activity;
molecular basis of drug-receptor recognition;
quantitative structure-activity relationships;
biotechnology impact in medicinal chemistry;
combinatorial strategies;
selected examples of rational drug development: anti-HIV, antibacterial and anticancer agents;
problems connected to drug resistance;
principal classes of biotech drugs.
LEARNING OUTCOME
Aim of this course is teaching the student the basic principles and knowledge on medicinal chemistry, drug discovery and biotechnology-derived drugs.
